In the fast pace world we live in, we sometimes neglect ourselves; we’re so focused on excelling in our careers, being the best parents, spouses, sisters/brothers, friends we can, but we forget that being a positive asset to those around us starts from within. It’s not about a number on a scale, it’s about feeling confident in your own skin…which translates into EVERY area of your life. I understand what it’s like to get caught up in the day-to-day of life, because I’ve been there too; sometimes weeks, months, years fly by because life is so busy and you get stuck in a routine, and often times a rut. You keep thinking “I’ll start to focus on me once xyz happens”…THAT, paired with a time that social media paints a false expectation of what you SHOULD (emphasis on should) look like, we measure ourselves comparably, which most times is not a motivation, yet a deterrent.

As for me, my wake up call was on 9/25 (the day after my bday) when I saw a picture from the day prior posted and felt like I didn’t even recognize myself. It was then that I knew I needed to make changes, could no longer sulk or feel insecure since I was taking zero action to change the situation. With that said, this change was ALL diet and getting my mind right, NOT the gym.
